Wetlands store large amounts of carbon, specifically blue carbon. Wetlands and rainforests are the Earth’s best defense mechanisms in fighting climate change.
Only 6% of the Earth is covered in wetlands. The wetlands are being destroyed faster than any other ecosystem. Degrading wetlands RELEASE carbon into the atmosphere.
Per the UN, “More than 85% of the world’s wetlands have vanished since the 18th century, making investments in alligator habitat conservation more crucial than ever.” The alligator industry is critical in the fight against climate change due to the financial incentive to landowners to restore wetlands and preserve natural habitats.
